Licorice Root Chunks

Licorice is a herbaceous perennial plant with medicinal properties. The roots of the plant reach a length of two or more meters and have a fleshy texture. These are used for therapeutic purposes.

Properties:

• It is anti-inflammatory, with action against erythema from UV radiation, prevents the formation of gastric ulcer and is used in the treatment of jaundice and esophageal ulcer.
• Treats hypertension, stress and insomnia. In large doses it has a narcotic effect.
• It is effective in bronchial runny nose, asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, cough and pleurisy.
• It acts against inflammatory diseases of the digestive system, such as gastritis, excessive acidity and stomach ulcers.
• Lowers cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
• It affects endogenous steroid activity, inhibits when they are high and stimulates when they are low.
• It has an astringent effect and is used in chronic ulcers, skin irritations and wounds.
• It acts against the hepatotoxicity caused by carbon tetrachloride. It is used to treat Hepatitis B and in cases of liver fibrosis.

How to use: Put ½-1 teaspoon in a cup of water and simmer for 8-10 minutes. Strain and add if you want sugar, honey or any sweetener of your choice.

Caution! Do not consume by people with hypertension. Abuse causes weakness in the muscular system and headaches, is toxic to the liver, drops testosterone, retains fluids, abdominal pain. It should not be taken with diuretics, heart medications, sugar, muscle relaxants, corticosteroids, serotonin-releasing pills, contraceptives, anticoagulants, lithium, interferon.
